vs.
#8 Brooklyn Nets #1 New York Knicks
This 1/8 match-up gives us the two New York teams. Congrats to the Nets on their first ever playoff appearance, the young core looks to be primed for the playoffs for years to come. The Knicks meanwhile are a year removed from winning it all as a #8 seed and look to defend their title after an undefeated regular season. Let's get into it. The Nets are young and don't have true superstars at the top yet, but do have a lot of guys that could blossom and get there. Murray is stepping up and looks to finally be the guy for the Spurs at PG. Aaron Gordon has had a great season amidst the dsyfunction in Orlando, and Donavon Mitchell has just been awesome for the Jazz. This Nets team is young and deep and will look to give the defending champs some trouble this week. The Knicks are probably the deepest team in the league, they have star power at the top with John Wall and behind him boast depth at every position.
The Nets were waiting for their young talent to develop and it really has. Outside of even just Mitchell, Murray and, Gordon, guys like Denzel, Caris, Skal at times, and even Bogdan have all developed and played well. I don't think the Nets are coming into this one expecting to win, but if Jabari comes back soon and the young guys play well you really never know. The key is just going to be staying healthy and getting some random go off performances from guys like Mitchell and AG. Expect this Nets team to be better year by year, to the point where in 2-3 years they are a title contender for now it'll be fun to see them take on a better more experienced Knicks team.
The Knicks are just all depth. John Wall honestly hasn't had a great season this year and the Knicks still cruised to an undefeated season. Dinwiddie has been awesome this year, and while Dlo being back has hurt his value a little bit, he's still going to product moving forward. The 1-2 punch behind John Wall has just been amazing this year. Kris Middleton and Jrue Holiday have been nothign short of studs all year, and should continue their run in the playoffs. Boogie being out is just going to open up even more usage for Holiday. TJ Warren is having a career year, and should continue to put up big numbers in an up tempo Suns offense. Pau has been really good again despite really starting to get up there in age. What's really scary is if this Ed Davis resurgence thing is for real the Knicks get really scary and could be unbeatable, lets hope it's not.
This is a really fun first round match-up, but lets be real the Nets are not yet in the Knicks league. This could be a conference title meeting in a couple years, but for now the Knicks should roll on and will await the winner of Bucks/76ers.
