The Boston Celtics are if nothing else, more entertaining after the acquisition of Draymond Green. He is one of the most charismatic and skilled players in the NBA and will be an invaluable mentor to Boston's young core of Markelle Fultz, Josh Jackson, Terry Rozier and Sindarius Thornwell. In Boston, Draymond will be the starting Center, the same role Nikola Jokic had last season. "We feel we can continue to run the same type of offense around Draymond as we ran around Jokic" President of Basketball Operations, Flanders Putnam said over the phone, "Draymond allows us to utilize Markelle's pick and roll ability much better than Hernangomez could have, that was a big factor in giving up 2 of our best young prospects in this deal." Boston sent Jaylen Brown and Willy Hernangomez to Toronto, both of whom have 3 more years on their rookie contracts. Draymond, meanwhile, is owed a total of 52.41 Million over the next 3 years, which is as good of a contract there is for a veteran player in his prime that's the caliber of Green. To some, this move is confusing for the Celtics as they had one of the truly great contracts in the league in Willy Hernangomez, and a potential all-star someday in Jaylen Brown, and a 1st rounder to boot. But for the Celtics front office; this is precisely what they have been aiming for. In the days, weeks, months leading up to this trade, Boston had been very close numerous times to acquiring the likes of Rudy Gobert, Joel Embiid, Draymond Green, and even Kevin Durant. Boston was rumored for Draymond before last season, before they knew they had a chance at landing Fultz and Jackson. For the Celtics, this summer is a "pinch me" moment over and over again. Now, the real work begins; taking the next step towards contending.
