San Antonio Spurs receive:
Jonas Valanciunas, TOR: $15,460,674 (17/18) - $16,539,326 (18/19) - $17,617,978 (19/20 PO)
Cameron Payne, CHI: $2,203,440 (17/18) - $3,263,295 (18/19 TO) - $4,539,243 (19/20 QO)
Orlando Magic receive:
San Antonio Spurs' 2017 1st round draft pick (#24)
San Antonio Spurs' 2018 1st round draft pick
San Antonio Spurs' 2017 2nd round draft pick (#54)
San Antonio Spurs' 2018 2nd round draft pick
I accept. This is a lot to pay for these two, especially since I've done quite well with late picks in the past, and I know these things... but the data sources I always relied on for college/overseas players coming to the NBA are now gone, I find that I don't have much faith in picking someone I can trust to develop this late in the draft without them, and I see the 2nd rounders as mostly worthless anyway. Plus I pretty much always prefer proven production over the gamble of someone who could/should turn into a good player.
JV was pretty disappointing last year, and I don't much care for his contract, but he's still a starting C with a reliable role, he's still young, there's a reason TOR paid him like that, and I still like him; besides, 25 FPPG in a down year is nothing to sneeze at. CHI is a fucking mess right now, especially at PG, but I can't imagine them entering the season with the roster structured as it currently is, and even if they do... MCW and Canaan are trash, Lavine is not really a PG and will probably play 2, Grant is very limited and not a legit starting PG in the NBA, Rondo is Rondo, and I still think Dunn is vastly overrated. So, whether some more trades happen or not, I have faith that Payne's ability will eventually make him stand out. If not, maybe I'll be able to move him to my d-league roster at some point; lot of unforeseeable variables there but I love the kid's game, always have, and I'm happy to get him.
