Hey gang
I had a proposal I wanted to run by you. As things stand you can only re-sign players the year they expire. For the sake of example we'll take Precious Achiuwa on my team. He still has 1 year remaining on his deal and so I can't extend him. BUT I am proposing we allow teams to reach extensions with players one year before contracts expire, similar to how teams do in real life. The catch is the new rate would be .75 X Fantasy points, as players generally average more in year 4 compared to year 3. So in this case I could take Precious who averaged 17.5 X .75 =13.13 M or I could wait until next year for the normal .6 Rate. Despite this, you still can only re-sign / extend one player per year. So in this example I couldn't re-sign Precious this year as well as Derozan. This will continue to ensure that FA remains competitive and there is a consistent crop of players to be added each year. There's also some fun strategy involved in deciding whether to extend a guy earlier at the higher rate or waiting and re-signing at the normal .6.
I think this is beneficial for all owners around the league. If 23 owners (75%) decide this is a change they wanna make this will be approved and will be available as soon as next off-season.
If this is approved and a team signs a player to an extension early that 4th year contract will still remain as is and then the new contract will kick in after that.

This is a good creative idea. I'll run some simulations on what this would do to the league landscape and get back to you before making my vote.

Fuck whatever peltz said. I still think 0.75 isnt enough. Think it needs to be 0.8x minimum for the jump in production to really matter.
Also would this come into player after the year?

Okay I love it.
For now this vote will just be to implement a system like this.
From there we can vote on how far in the future it’s enacted and what the rate for the early extension would be.

Precious would have to average 5 more points which is a pretty solid jump imo but we can vote on new rate as well.

Would the rule about an injured player still apply, as in the player needs to play X amount of games in the season? Assuming the extension period would be the same time as the re-sign window?

I vote in favor, like it. Great job in general keeping the wheels spinning on things like this and other rule adjustments, big part of why this league is still strong and so much fun.
Except Heats' ideas, they're excluded from that comment cuz fuck whatever that guy said. Or rather, fuck the childish superiority complex he loves to openly display over and over. News flash, heat: people who really are superior don't feel the need to constantly bring it up or try to make others feel inferior, it's a relatively simple concept that boils down to a lack of insecurity. But I guess we all know where you stand in terms of insecurity, eh?

Okay quick update.
I've reached out to the remaining 9 owners who have yet to vote.
Honestly I feel like .75 is the highest I could go with this (Sorry Sanj). If this is approved (23 owners) we will next vote on when this is implemented. If it doesn't reach 23, then this will be canned.

I approve. I really like this idea and it sort of solves the resign issue of two studs on the same year
