Am i the only one who thinks this might be being exploited a little bit? It allows teams to essentially roster 17 guys. It was more created for international players to be stashed who aren't playing but it seems like it's more now being used for guys who should be eventual NBA players who have played maybe 1-2 d-league games over the year. Again this is just smart from GMs but just wanted to hear what you guys thought. Nothing being changed irrationally just want to hear your guys thoughts.

I like the idea, but i think there should be a limit. like you can't put them back into your D-League roster if they've played a certain amount of games in the NBA

This takes too much away from an already thin FA pool imo.

TJ makes a good point. Maybe make it so you can only have 1 D-League guy and then two overseas? I'd still keep a games played limit on the D-League guy though

Yup, definitely taking advantage of the rules as written... Shouldn't that be our right though? Those managers who pay attention, target players they think will develop with time, and have the requisite cap space to sign and hold said players should be rewarded, imo.

Coming back to this, obviously not making any immediate changes, but the G-league/D-league whatever the fuck you want to call it will be coming to an end next year.
Again i'm not calling out any specific people, and really it's your right because of the way the rule works, but we literally have people sending players to the D-league in the off-season when nobody is playing. Deandre Bembry played in the dleague last year, but there's no way he shouldn't be taking up a roster spot for me.
Anyways, starting next year it goes back to just international players aka players who haven't signed a deal with an NBA team. IF you have a guy who goes up and down to the g-league, then you will need to decide whether he is valuable enough to have on your roster.

the FA pool is already thin as shit if they arent worthy of your 12 man roster slot then theyre gone.

I like the idea that after a certain amount of NBA games played (maybe 20?) he's no longer a D League player and then takes up a roster spot i.e. Bembry. Even then 2 D League max. I'd think this would allow for top teams to still have some players in the pipeline for the future.

Tbh if we are getting rid of d league spots we might aswell abolish the 2nd round in our draft since 2nd round picks wont be rosterable anymore...
I reckon perry's suggestion is a good idea tho

Yeah, but you cant justify using a roster space for them anymore with 12 spots. I reckon 3 international stashes (or 5) and 2-3 dleague spots might be good. In both cases players become ineligible for the spots after they played 500 mins in the nba or something.

I can't say I'm on board with the change, but if we were to adjust it in a way where the rebuilding teams aren't penalized for scouting or signing free agents to stash then I think we could make it work. Maybe a 2nd round pick is eligible for a d league spot for 1 full season, and if they still haven't played in like 1 or 2 NBA games by the end of they're first year, they can be slid to one of the international spots?
Maybe consider something like this in addition to something like perrys suggestion. There are teams that trade away all picks and 2nd rounders to contend, and there are teams that take all all picks and either hope / predict a few of them panning out. I feel like both are fine strategies as long as owners ride it out multiple seasons.

Don't like this because i do like stashing guys in G/D-league, so it would hurt my team, but i get it... would make the league more equitable by allowing only teams without enough legit producers to fill their active roster to "stash" guys on that roster, so i won't argue against it.
What about players we draft that go straight to D/G-league without ever playing in the NBA? Would we be allowed to hold on to them without using a roster spot? That would make second round picks more valuable, too; as it is i use them exclusively as trade chips with weaker teams desperate to find that "diamond in the rough" type player...
