Hey Kev. There’s been two clear eras during your time in bball 26. The prime was amazing perennial playoff team, a title, a great resume tbh. But then we have the rebuild era. Last year was kinda the first real year of that. How do you think it’s going and how do you feel about the state of your team?
Kevin: Ah yes, saving one of the best interviews for last. Not going to lie, some of these past interviews have been dull, nonchalant, weary, and inconspicuous. So, with that being said, I will take you all on an adventure rivaling that dumbass “its a small world” ride at disneyland. Where to begin … well as many of you OGs know I have been in this league since its very conception. I was a fetus. I was 12 (I think) when we started bball 25 and I began as the Lakers. I usually gloss over this part as its not important …. Anyways, I eventually took on the Nuggets and with the help of Chuck, we formed a super team. As time pases however, many forget the power house the Nuggets once were. Championship after championship, I was getting bored of winning. I needed to hit the reset button. So, I sold everyone for picks and decided to start over. Honestly, these past 2/3 years of rebuilding have been the most fun ive had in this league. Dont get me wrong … I love winning and am very competitive, but building from scratch has made me 10x more invested in my team and way more interested in basketball in general. These past 2 drafts I have spent countless hours doing research and I believe I have set myself up for long term success. Yes I have made some ill advised trades cough* franz duke cough * but doesn't everyone at some point?
What’s the goal and expectation for you guys this year? Without your pick is there a scenario in which you don’t make the playoffs but are still satisfied?
Kevin: The goal for the nuggets this year is the 8th seed in the playoffs. 8th seed you say??!! Thats not that high! Well im one of those owners who isnt going to sugar coat it. The team is not ready to compete with the big dogs. Sure weve got a fun squad, but realistically if everything goes according to plan we are sneaking into the playoffs. I traded my pick because yes I am getting tired of not competing. It served as a way to get me more invested in winning and putting the team in a place to grow and prosper this year without the overarching loom of tanking on players minds. We may be young pups, but we have lock jaw. Once we bite, you are losing at least a finger.
I wanna give you the space to take about your draft class. Keegan and Patrick Baldwin. What made you confident those were your guys and what are your expectations for them?
Kevin: Well first off I would like to address my ill advised draft grade of a C+. Usually I would be more upset but Sarge is a casual basketball fan so i am not surprised and ill give him a break. Like I said earlier, I did my due diligence this year. I loved keegan, but I honestly loved beneshit more. Knowing beneshit is a SG and our league scoring rules, i had to go with Keegan. Wish I was able to get my hands on both but hey, you cant always get what you want.
Lets talk about Keegan Murray … also known as ThreeKan, King Keegan, Summer League MVP, and the GOAT. I have high expectations. I tanked last year for a good draft pick and it has resulting in this stunning young man. In his brief time in Denver, Keegan has been spotted eating at the fanciest restaurants, hanging with the hottest dudes, and wearing the most trendy fashion designs. He is the building block of this franchise and he knows it.
Moreover, Patrick is another intriguing piece. There may not be much of an avenue for him in the rotation this year, but all reports indicate hes got a great BBIQ that hes been showing off in the preseason. That smooth stroke of his will do wonders if we ever need some quick points off the bench.
Royce Oneale and Drummond in FA. The real ones know about the reunion with Drummond, but what attracted you to both as pieces you wanted to add this off season?
Kevin: Drummond has always been a close friend of mine. Tracing our relationship back to bball25, I dealt kendrick perkins for the 9th pick. That pick wound up being Andre! Many forget his brief dominance in this league as he averaged near 40 for a few seasons and served my team well. It was a mutual signing and we believe we both can benefit each other. He and royce bring a veteran mindset to this team full of young guns. I see them both coming off the bench and being pivotal pieces of our rotation.
Favorite deal you made this off season? JJJ/Bones for Rudy or IQ/Herb for Kuz?
Kevin: Tough question, but I would say IQ/Herb for Kuz. After I signed Kuz, I called him into my office and had a very productive 1 on 1. The state of my team was trash, utter garbage, straight up plastic handle vodka levels of disgusting. I told him “kuz, you are a great looking guy … you have the opportunity this year to be my tank commander. You have the keys to the franchise, go out there, perform, and ill get you to a winning franchise.” He couldnt have been happier … to took the reigns and delivered his best season yet. My tender love and care is exactly what was needed for him to succeed on the big stage. Once the deal was made, there were no hard feelings. I added to the farm while Kuz now gets to play in OKC where GM loren is primed for a big championship run. (Side note … what the fuck do people do in OKC, why would anyone want to live there? The place sucks. Have fun rebuilding your house every 2 years because a tornado destroys it)
Team is loaded with young talent… who are is a guy you feel people are sleeping on that you want to highlight? And honestly it can be more than one
Kevin: There are 2 guys that I love. Quentin Grimes and Kai Jones. On july 14, 2022, Bman stated “smfh, Fck you Kev,” when I offered Grimes + something small for either Shai, KAT, or Ben. This was a massive surprise to me. What Bman has failed to see is that Quentin Grimes will be a future all star and the time to buy is now! He is missing out on the next big Apple, Amazon, and Tesla.
Additionally Kai Jones is a point of emphasis on the denver nuggets this year. What people (loren) seem to forget is that Kai started playing basketball at the age of 16. That was like 4 years ago. So chill out. Sure he sucks right now, but the man has a crazy build and has shown some ridiculous flashes of athleticism. If he can put it together … sheesh, giannis lite.
Who are your ideal 4 teams you’d beat in a title run?
Kevin: Hmm ok this is more of a random assortment but these are the guys I would like to beat.
1. Heat … excited for our week 1 matchup and would love a good start to the year. Wasnt too happy about the Gary trade that fell through. You could say I am still a little salty.
2. Charles … charles yearns for my success. Every day he goes to the gym and pictures me in his mind. I am the reason he grinds. I am the reason he cries. I am the reason he has fallen short of the pinnacle of fantasy basketball. He will never usurp me.
3. Loren … just every day Kai Jones get abused in our group chat. Would love to win by like 5 fp and the reason is Kai came in during garbage time and put up like 3 rebounds.
4. Jacob … I cant let him get 3 rings before me
5. Peltz … hes got a punchable face
6. Bman … due to grimes disrespect
7. The ghost of TJ … gone but not forgotten.
