1. Philadelphia 76ers
Wow what a start its been for the 76ers organization. A lot of people were surprised by the major move the 76ers GM made in acquiring Trae Young. Most people didn't understand the move as the 76ers were not considered contenders in the heavy hitting Eastern Conference. So far early in the season, the team has shown up and performed beyond expectations. Their only loss came against a so far undefeated Wizards team and week 2 the team looked more explosive than the 76ers organization ever has. Led by Sabonis and Trae young this team might win its fair chunk. Can Giddey, Curry and Kennard keep this up all year though? Those guys are outperforming the loftiest expectations and it will be tough. At the same time, Kanter was given a 10M bag in the offseason and has yet to score in double digits. the 76ers are farther ahead than people though, but some pieces will need to keep outperforming their projections to get Kyle into the playoffs.
2. Chicago Bulls
Charles has gotten a lot of flack for his teams performance out the gate. Rightfully so. The team has just not performed, and for a GM with championship pedigree this is abysmal. The team currently ranks in the bottom half in points scored and has taken some rough beatings already in the young season. Richaun Holmes continues to be a steady force, but looking around the rest of the roster its littered with disappointments. Kristaps has played 3 games, and even then he's scoring at a sad 18 FPPG. Kira Lewis, Cameron Payne, Jrue Holiday the teams 3 guard attack has failed to combine to even pass 40 points a night. Players like Tristan Thompson and Brad Wannamaker should be forgotten. The rest of the roster should'nt even be mentioned. The other ray of hope was Trez and Charles managed to turn that hot start into acquiring RJ Barrett. This trade could be a savior for the Bulls organization as RJ managed to score a career high 56 points in his bulls debut and offers some sunshine for chuck as a rough start has him fending for himself in the discord.
3. New Orleans Pelicans
This one may surprise a lot of people. Everyone expects the Pelicans to be on top so why are they included in the most surprising list? Well when you consider that the team hasn't had a single game played by 2 of its stars and yet has managed to outscore all but one team so far? Yeah that will get you included on the list. This team is legit stacked with 5 stars in Gobert, Draymond, Derozan, Kyrie and Siakam. To think CJ McCollum, a 30 point scorer on the year is the 6th best player is absolutely insane. Depth can be a big concern for such a top heavy team and must be addressed. Can Johnny turn some of his younger assets into a scoring option for his depth? IF he can, this team might just be a favorite without Kyrie or Siakam even playing a single minute. If those 2 guys can get on the court I don't really see any team competing with this juggernaut.
