Andre is headed to New Orleans
The Pelicans and Pacers came to terms to a blockbuster deal that shook the league Thursday afternoon. The deal will send Andre Drummond, Justice Winslow, and future picks in return for Eric Bledsoe, Tyler Ullis, and Nerlens Noel. The deal really does seem to help both sides, as the Pelicans were able to flip their back court depth for a star big man in Drummond. Drummond should immediately slot in as the Pelicans starting center and looks to be taking over for Bledsoe as the franchise center piece. Meanwhile Bledsoe joins Russ in what might now be the best point guard duo in the league. Noel, and Ullis are both up and coming young players who join a relatively young Pacers core.
I think this trade benefits both teams. I think the Pelicans might win this long term. Drummond is one the best young big men in the leauge and is the unquestioned best player in this deal. But really what it will come down to is the development of Justice Winslow. We are big Winslow fans, but we don't deny he has his flaws. He is not a good shooter, and struggles to to create his own shot. His ability to fix those to issues will determine whether he is another run of the mill energy defense player, or a star in this league. There are some key factors on the Pacers side as well. Nerlens Noel has a lot of potenital, but that potential won't be realized if he stays in Philly. Noel taking that next step will be huge the Pacers. Bledsoe is also coming off a pretty serious injury, we really have no concerns with him coming back. Ullis is also another interesting piece. He played very well in summer league, and could have a role this year, but is still far off from a starters role.
Overall it's hard to pick a side right now. If i had to it would probably be Pelicans, he gets the best player in the deal and another young wing with a lot of potential. The Pacers pick up a young PG on a good contract, and two other nice young pieces. Good trade all around, in one of our first blockbusters in league history.
