Equal parts why kobe is an all time great vs why he could've been better... just imagine if he'd had that level of defensive intensity on a game to game basis?!?!?!

Nothing here adds anything to your prior argument of Manu>Kobe.
If anything, Kobe would've dogged the shit outta Manu, guy was lucky he got hurt.
Mamba out.

Pretty cool story, had never heard that one. Kobe was a competitor but he did take easy assignments throughout the season. I think he had the energy to save for offense, which I understand. You look at James Harden this season who seems to have put a little more effort into the defense, which is a good thing for him. Kobe didn't take plays off on defense regularly like past seasons of Harden or Lebron James, so I definitely respect him for that. But I also remember when the Lakers lost in the 2008 finals; he was on Allen a few times but for most of the series he was covering Rondo after the initial few plays. Rondo was a rookie and was more of a defensive presence than anything. I never understood it. So to the point made above, I think he could have cemented himself even higher in all time rankings if he showed consistent defensive willpower. Team USA is a cool thing to watch but I was glad another country won gold for once in basketball, pretty cool moment for those guys.
