just reposting this from 25, hope it's helpful for anyone interested.
Are you as frustrated with blackout games as I am? $200 and I can't watch like half the fucking games? If so, be prepared for my wordiness and read on...
Step 1:
Pay for a good VPN service. This is something you should do anyway, since I'm pretty sure all of you are watching porn and would rather not deal with the repercussions if your mom/girlfriend/RA/whoever (fiance, in my case) looks at your computer. Also, if you want to download torrents, and thus get whatever TV show/movie/music you like for free, a VPN is essential, especially if you're using an ISP like a college ethernet. Anyway, long story short, suck it up and pay, it's worth it; I use IPVanish, and I have zero complaints, if you're looking for a recommendation.
Step 2:
Choose an international server through your VPN software and set up a NEW League Pass account. It's relatively simple with the better VPN's, for IPVanish it's just a drop-down list of like 500 servers - find one from a foreign country, connect to it and then proceed to NBA.com as if you were living in that country. International League Pass is more expensive, be prepared to pay $250 or so, but IMO it's more than worth it to avoid the frustration of rushing home to see a game, dancing around while the launcher loads, etc, only to see that goddamned "audio only" button. I tried it using my existing League Pass account accessed from an international server, and it didn't work, the cheap-ass NBA has somehow linked the original location you signed up from to your account, so that's a no-go. However, my buddy did it the way I am describing and insists it always works, the interweb agrees with him, and I've seen first-hand evidence of him having access to games that were "blacked out" for me. Doing this bypasses all the local restrictions (obviously), but more importantly it bypasses the "nationally televised" blackout games on ESPN, TNT, NBAtv, etc. If you already have basic cable (and access to all those nationally televised games, particularly NBAtv), you could alternatively choose a server based in a U.S. location that doesn't have a "local" team, such as North Dakota or Alaska. Be careful, though, sometimes it's weird, like considering Boston a home team for someone in Maine, or blacking out Phoenix games for someone in San Diego, which has happened to me. Fucking cocksuckers.
Step 3:
Make sure you always reconnect to a foreign server before launching the League Pass player. I actually have no evidence for this, but I strongly suspect that IF someone were paying attention, they'd know what you were doing if you signed up from a foreign server and then always logged in from the same U.S.-based ISP. Also, there is the fact that when I log in from an Atlanta server with my "home" log-in, for example, it still blocks Clippers/Lakers home games (I'm in San Diego, LA games are normally "blackout").
Hope this is a helpful little how-to. Below find a sort-of related thread which is looking for you to pay them a premium in order to do the "dirty" work that I have described above for you, if that makes you feel better about legitimacy. Or, just get a good quality VPN, then you don't have to worry about legitimacy.
