We got another deal for ya'
Pelicans get: Eric Gordon, Jahil Okafor, Hornets 1st this year (Nr. 3 pick), Hornets 2nd this year (37th i think)
Hornets get: Loul Deng, James Young, Pelicans 1st this year (Nr. 2 pick), Pacers 2nd this year (44th i think)
I accept. Hornets is very high on the guy likely available at 2, whilst im a bit scared of him despite his likely star potential. Therefore, I am moving down a pick and get some pieces in the process.

Probably overpaying, going to learn value one way or another. I am sold on the top two guys being superstars and joining the rest of my young core.

You guys know i rarely veto and am all for letting a guy run his team.
However this is pretty bad, and i think in this case there is a way in which this trade can still happen where both sides benefit. This is just way over the top. I probably would approve Gordon and Okafor with 3 for 2, because moving up for your guy is something you gotta do sometimes. But taking on Deng's terrible contract that someone just gave away two firsts to do is just overkill (yes i know Anderson was in the deal too). If Pelicans can find a way too either keep Deng or not get one of Gordon or Okafor i'd approve this, but this is too much for a guy still learning the ropes.
Veto.

I agree with caleb.
I dont want to veto but this trade bad. Just way to much assets to trade up one spot . it could definitely be reworked to pass though

I dont know if this is a lost cause already but ill quickly jump in with some things:
1. Deng wasnt moved for two firsts. If you look at the pieces involved then you gotta realize that lamb, the place of the picks and anderson are vital aspects of the other deal. The highest offer (without any prior negotiations) i recieved for lamb was in the realm of 3 2nds or 1st, so he clearly is worth something. Secondly the 1sts i got are literally gonna be in the bottom 5 of the 1st round since grizz team is / was quite good, so they might as well be counted as 2nd rounders. Lastly anderson is on an equally bad contract and was just as much of a value subtractor as deng (maybe a tad less). If you take all of this together and consider that some people believed the deal to be an overpay on grizz behalf, then you have to realize that taking on dengs contract is worth much less than the 2 1st mentioned and probably more in the realms of multiple 2nds.
2. On the topic of moving up "just one spot" if you buy into what most analysts say then ball is a pretty clear cut nr. 2 pick with a ceiling as high as HoF. Obviously is valuation plummeted due to the shennanigans his father pulled, but that should be neglectable if you wanna evaluate just the player. I (and hornets) believe that in this draft fultz and ball are considered 1a and 1b picks while the rest from 2-8 is a mingling of different players with a lower valution. (Obviously you dont have to agree with my assesment of the draft class, but i think you gotta admit that there is a case that can be made)
3. Okafor and Gordon: both of these players obviously hold upside, but neither are without question marks. (Gordons injury history and motivational issues come to mind and Similiar motivational issues come to mind for jahil). So the way i see it i take on two question marks, that undoubtly could be well worth it, but its iffy regardless.)
4. I gotta involve deng somehow to take on Gordon's contract. Plain and simple i cant do the deal without loosing dengs contract if i dont wanna completely cap strap myself
5. Lastly, Hornets has the cap space needed and isnt looking to compete right now, so adding around 10 mil this year and 2.5 mil next year simply isnt dramatic to him.
I know this might not sway you around, but i wanted to lay out my motives anyways, so you could atleast see where i am coming from.

Also, isnt the trade comittee in place to ensure a trade doesnt ruin a franchise? The way i see it hornets isnt completely cap strapping itself and isnt giving up multiple 1st or anything crazy either, he is simply paying a high (imo fair) price for a player he really likes with no real / dramatively negative future implications for him.

Pelicans everything you've listed i fully understand. You aren't bringing new facts to light. The main thing in this is this could be re-done in a way that is much more fair. For a new owner losing 2 assets along with taking on that contract to gain 1 spot, in a draft where really none of know who will and won't pan out is too much. You can still complete the trade in a way that you accomplish your goal and he moves up.

The two suggestions made by TJ and Tyler are very uninteresting for me, they literally kill the trade. I either get a likely 17-18 fpg scorer on a 13 mil contract or a young player that cant even make waves in a perfect wave making scenario (phillie) to move down from a could be HoFer to a maybe all star.

Just posted a suggestion but i made a mistake, forgot to include a 2nd, would you guys pass the following:
Okafor + Eric Gordon + 3rd pick for Deng + Young + 2nd pick + 45th pick + 55th pick?
That way I basically pay a high 2nd, a low second and young to lose dengs contract, and add Eric Gordon + Okafor to move down a spot. this is essentially calebs suggested deal from further up with a cap dump deal included.
In comparison to the old deal this deal gives Hornets a net gain of 2 2nds, which is essentially what i got for Deng in the first place. Btw, by cutting Deng and doing this deal he ll actually SAVE cap, so he ll have increased flexibility in the FA market. All in all: Hornets gets HIS guy at nr. 2, a shot at filling out the roster with 2 young talents that might actually contribute to his rebuilding strategy, LOSES cap and adds a player he likes in Young.
Deal makes a lot of sense for both sides IMO and even if either of us is winning this trade by a bit, I really dont see how its vetoworthy, seeing as this deal doesnt jeopardize the future of either franchise since none of us gambles away their future by trading a lot of future picks nor does either of us get absolutely smothered by salaries to pay.
